The False Gospel of Hate
Westboro Baptist Church preaches hate. The pastor and members (many of whom are related to the pastor) believe that God hates certain classes of people, and their actions show that anyone who disagrees with them is worthy of their hatred as well. They are famous for going to funerals and waving signs about their hatred, even though the person being buried had nothing to do with whatever their hatred is aimed at. If you want a real stomach-turning experience, go visit their website. But I won’t link it here because I don’t want their filth linked directly to this blog.
The Five Year Old Giant
A little girl who knows better than the adults at Westboro Baptist decided to do something about it last Friday. She set up a lemonade stand across the street from their church. Her purpose?
Jayden Sink, with more than a little help from her father, Jon, sold “Pink Lemonade for Peace” from her stand outside the Equality House, a rainbow-painted building across the street from the controversial church’s headquarters on Friday. According to Jon, his daughter got more than $170 in cash and more than $10,000 in online donations through Crowdrise. The money went to Planting Peace, a nonprofit that owns the Equality House.
As you can see in the picture accompanying the news article, Jayden may look small but she stood tall when it came to her principles. How did Westboro Baptist respond? Their usual way, by standing across the street and shouting their blasphemous filth.
Jesus said the world will know we are Christians by our love. (John 13:34-35.) Are the Westboro Baptists really Christians?
I can’t tell.
