A New Year, A New Look, A New You – getting the ultimate makeover!

Have you been thinking of adopting a new look in the New Year? Here are 100 years of fashions for you to choose from, decade by decade, all in just over a very clever minute:

That look from the 80s fits me, musically and metaphorically. Musically because I was totally into New Wave and Ska, and metaphorically because I can walk around sometime feeling like my head is in a fog just like that cloud of hairspray the model was enduring.

What about you: is there a new look you’re going for, a new you you’re hoping to establish this year?

A Total Makeover

The Bible tells us we receive the ultimate makeover when we belong to Jesus:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17.)

Being a new creation in Christ means we are no longer stuck in our old ways, because he has brought us into a new and eternal existence in himself:

For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin — because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. (Romans 6:6-8.)

This makeover is complete because we are presently alive with Christ. And one day he will make everything else new as well, and that is the reality we will live in for eternity.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” (Revelation 21:3-5.)

Here’s what this new existence looks like: Jesus is on his throne, he reigns in the New Year and always, and he has promised not only that his people are new creations now but that he will make all things new for all time.

And on top of that, you have already received the ultimate makeover and you’ll never need another one again.

You have been made new.

First, Tim, you have a great ability to find the neatest videos online! And I will say those make-up artists and hairstylists got the styles perfectly right! They didn’t glam up any of the decades (I am assuming on the first few). Second, Thank you for this word. Thank you for the reminder of being made new in Jesus! God is so good.

Thank God that when He does makeovers, He doesn’t need hairspray or extensions! I’ve noticed that when people are truly living joyously, knowing and believing themselves to be made new, that their countenance changes. I’ve met several women who aren’t much to look at by everyone else’s standards, but they “glow”, not because of an exotic beauty treatment or professional stylists, but because they are filled with God’s joy. And that’s truly beautiful!
