Satan Supports Equal Rights?

Church signs are a minefield for bad doctrine:

Satan and Equal RightsSatan was not the first to demand equal rights. He didn’t want equality at all. He wanted to take God off the throne and rule in his place.

You said in your heart,
    “I will ascend to the heavens;
I will raise my throne
    above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.
I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.”
(Isaiah 14:13-14.)

I get the impression that whoever approved the wording for that church sign (assuming someone didn’t create it just to get a rise out of people) is also opposed to equality. Of course, another way to read that sign is as a teaser for a sermon on servanthood as Jesus taught it:

Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:42-45.)

That’s a good topic for a sermon. But it still doesn’t lead to the idea that equal rights is satanic.

In fact, nowhere does the Bible say we are not to consider ourselves equal to each other. It does say that we are not to think more highly of ourselves than we should (Romans 12:3) and we should not emulate those who seek to put themselves higher than those around them (Matthew 10:25), but those passages do not tell us to avoid equality or striving for equality.

When it comes to equality, the Bible actually tells us it’s not only desirable but urges us to accept it as a reality in God’s kingdom.

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28.)

Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. (Colossians 3:11.)

Rather than desire equality, Satan must hate it since equality in Christ is godly. And those who oppose equal rights for all people are doing nothing to pursue what the Bible teaches is God’s truth.

S0 please church sign, don’t tell me Satan wanted equal rights when what he wants is not to be God’s equal but to take his place. And don’t try to tell me that pursuing equal rights is ungodly. It’s not.

God loves us all.

  1. Bev Murrill says:

That pastor/sign maker has made up his mind; don’t confuse him with proper doctrine

  2. Retha says:

What is more, equal rights between humans and humans is justice among those whom God created equal. God is no respecter of persons, God does not show favouritism.
Even if Satan wanted equal rights, it would have been preposterous for the created to ask equality with the Eternal, one who is somewhere with the Omnipresent, the one with finite knowledge with the Omniscient.

    • Tim says:

The reality that God is no respecter of persons fits well with the truth that we are to treat one another as equals always. Thanks, Retha.

  3. Jeannie says:

You can see the agenda behind that church sign: “Some uppity person/group is demanding more than they’re currently getting, and if we let them have it, we’ll be shortchanged.” Typical fear-mongering, scarcity-mongering, and slippery-sloping, hiding behind a totally wrong depiction of Satan and God. That’s a lot going on in 9 words. 😦

    • Tim says:

Fear- and scarcity-mongering is right, Jeannie. I don’t get it when people act out of fear that God will somehow run short on having enough blessing for his people. And that whole slippery slope issue about grace. For crying out loud, no one has ever gone further with Grace than God goes. We can’t, because his grace is limitless.

  4. satanicviews says:

The great thing is that everything and everyone is unequal, if all were equal there would be no motion, change or growth.

    • Tim says:

Inequality in ability and attributes? I totally agree. But happily we are equal in our standing before God as he loves without concern for abilities or attributes.

  5. Pastor Bob says:

    Equal rights or “fairness?”
That which is right vs “fair.”
-Perhaps the sign is leading in the direction of this “fairness” issue.

    • Tim says:

I don’t know what they really meant by that sign, although it seems like a dig against women or some other oppressed group that would like equal rights. I do know that they are completely wrong about Satan’s view of equality, though.

  6. Ruth says:

Somehow this seems like a slippery slope to ‘de-demonizing’ satan. He ‘only’ wanted equality, sounds reasonable…sort of…until you think about the implications of understating the horrors that came from his terrible pride, and the fact he demanded absolute lordship in place of his Creator. Then it seems a serious spiritual dig at people who demand freedom as God made it, and Christ enabled it. Anonymous condemnation is a hard thing to answer to, and I think walking on thin ice, as it judges everyone and no one all at once, depending on your life experiences and situation in life. Cruel and unsound, worse, a bad off centre witness. Does this reaction sound like I’m bristling…..if I was an Echidna, every sharp spine would be standing on end like the hairs on the back of my neck as the implications of this sorry ‘doctrine’ sink in.

    • Tim says:

The implications you’ve seen are insidious. Ruth. That’s what happens when sign creators (and preachers) try to get clever without understanding the doctrinal aspect of what they’re really saying

  7. Ruth says:

The first part of my post reads awkwardly, hope it’s meaning makes sense, couldn’t get it to order itself from my thoughts….

    • Tim says:

      Made sense to me.

      • Ruth says:

Scary stuff, I think things like the Screw Tape Letters resonate with this insidious, seemingly harmless change of attitude within our current climate of division and rejection of truth. Glad my post was understandable, I did intensely dislike what I read on that sign.

  8. Tamara Morton says:

I think that’s a creation of one of those church sign maker sites. If it’s real the pastor is a fool and God is watching.
Satan wanted to rule Heaven. That’s not asking for equality.
Furthermore, being that war took place in the beginning it is no longer relevant. What is is the state of creation due to Satan losing his war.

And finally, equal rights let that pastor’s wife to vote. A right women were granted long years after former slaves were. And because they were male!

Any pastor that condemns equality is going to be very surprised when he’s before the White throne of judgment and not the Bema. Because the Bible tells the Christian everyone is equal in Jesus Christ.

  9. Nelson says:

It is truth that we are all equal for God in Christ. But we are not equal outside of Christ. The equality that most people are after is not the equality that the bible teach. It is a satanic equality because it leave God out of it. You know that Satan like to mimic God on everything that God do for us and this equality is part of the spirit of the antichrist. The only way that we can be equal is in God. Apart from that we are all unique. We are all wonderfully unique. We can be similar in certain things but not equal. God did not make us to be equal for the simple purpose because he want it to be part of us. That is why Jesus said that he can not do anything with out the Father. We all need God in our life and we are all equal in his sight. But apart from that no body is equal in this world. You can consider you self equal but all you are doing is lieing to your self.

  10. Christian-in-rehab says:

Reblogged this on CHRISTIAN IN REHAB.

  11. Christian-in-rehab says:

I have heard messages that say equality is satanic and bla bla bla. Really, this church sign is a reflection of the reasoning of some preachers. Say all you may, they’ll look at you as one confused by demons and influenced by the world.
