  1. I find it challenging sometimes to find that sweet spot where the right thing to do/say and the right time to do/say it meet. I remember getting together with a close friend once, and I had this sense that I needed to speak to her about something she had done that had crossed a boundary. Before I had a chance to bring it up, she started telling me about how a bunch of people at work were on her case about something she had done. Of course that was kind of revealing in and of itself, but as we talked I knew it just wouldn’t be right to pile on by adding my own concern; she needed a listening ear at that moment, not an additional complaint. When it comes to having difficult conversations like this, I am a “waiter” — sometimes to a fault. I wait for the perfect time, and often it doesn’t come, or not for a long time. I don’t know if that’s a fault or a strength of mine — maybe both, depending on the situation.

Talk to me (or don't)
